Rapid Growth within Mobile Broadband Continues in Sweden
The Swedish Post and Telecom Agency (PTS) has published the Swedish Telecommunications Market 2009 report. According to the study, the number of mobile broadband subscriptions increased by 50% during 2009 from 877,000 to 1.31 million. The number of mobile broadband subscriptions increased by 50 per cent to 1.31 million during 2009.
New Wireless Technology Set to Double Internet Speed for Telstra
Australia’s Telstra has completed the upgrade of its Next G HSPA+ mobile broadband network with Dual Carrier technology, which doubles peak downlink rates to up to 42 Mbps. The HSPA+ Dual Carrier coverage is currently available in 100 regional towns and cities, including Albury, Alice Springs, Orange, Broome, Ballarat, Roxby Downs, Port Lincoln and Newcastle.
HTC Strengthens Software Capabilities with Acquisition of Abaxia
Taiwanese handset vendor HTC has acquired Paris-based mobile software company Abaxia in an effort to boost its software development capabilities. HTC and Abaxia have worked closely together in the past and their business complement each other well. Abaxia specialises in custom mobile solutions to place and promote services on the first page for network operators and handset manufacturers.
Apple Presents iPhone 4
Apple has unveiled the iPhone 4, the latest version of its iconic mobile broadband smartphone. The new handset goes on sale on 24 June in the US, the UK, Germany, France and Japan. The iPhone 4 runs on iOS4, the updated version of the iPhone operating system. It offers new features, such as FaceTime for video calling, the new Retina high-resolution display, a five-megapixel camera with 5x digital zoom and LED flash and HD video recording.
Motorola MILESTONE™ XT720: New Standard for Android Smartphones
Motorola has launched a new version of its Milestone Android smartphone. The 10.9 mm-thin tablet Milestone XT720 features a 3.7-inch, WVGA (480X854) capacitive touch screen, an eight-megapixel camera with 10x digital zoom, 720p HD camcorder, Xenon flash and smart image capture.
ZTE Launches World's First Commercial TD-LTE Base Stations
ZTE has launched two commercial TD-LTE base stations, BBU-B8300 and RRU-R8962. The B8300 base station is based on ZTE's SDR unified platform and can be upgraded from TD-SCDMA mode to TD-LTE or TD/TD-LTE dual mode.
DOCOMO to Begin Pre-launch Operation of LTE Network
NTT DoCoMo has begun verifying its new LTE network in the Tokyo area, prior to the full-scale commercial launch in December. The operator will assess the LTE system for speed, latency, stability of inter-cell handover and other conditions required for commercial operation.
Orange France is Opening up Mobile Internet Access: Stylish Smartphones from 9 Euros and Dedicated Offers
Orange France has unveiled a line-up of smartphones at highly affordable prices. Targeting customers on the Origami “version plus” plan, the operator is offering the Samsung Galaxy Naos or the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 mini for EUR9, as well as the HTC Desire or the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 for EUR49.
O2 UK Introduces New Mobile Data Pricing Model
O2 UK has unveiled new data pricing plans which will be introduced on 24 June when the iPhone 4 is officially launched. The three inclusive data bundles include 500 MB, 750 MB and 1 GB and will be available with monthly price plans that range from GBP25 to GBP60.
