China Mobile Launches World's First TD-LTE Network with Huawei's E2E Solution
Huawei and China Mobile have launched the world's first TD-LTE/SAE trial network using Huawei's E2E solution. Download rates are quoted as being more than 10 times faster than existing 3G networks. The test TD-LTE network will cover the entire 2010 Shanghai World Expo Park and some key pavilions, where more than 70 million visitors are expected. Huawei's E2E TD-LTE/SAE solution will allow Expo visitors to access a variety of mobile broadband services, including HD video transmission, video conferencing, HD video-on-demand (VOD) and live broadcasting. 
New T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide Improves Communication through T-Mobile Exclusive Software
T-Mobile USA has unveiled its latest Android-powered smartphone, the T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide, Designed by HTC exclusively for T-Mobile, the HSDPA-enabled device features a slide-out QWERTY keyboard and high-performance 3.4-inch HVGA touchscreen. It is powered by the latest Android 2.1 OS. Available in June, the T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide offers exclusive new features including Faves Gallery, myModes and a dedicated Genius Button.
New Intel Atom Processor-Based Platform Using Significantly Lower Power Readies Intel for Smartphone, Tablet Push
Intel has launched its latest Intel Atom processor-based platform as the company targets the dynamic market for handheld computing devices, including high-end smartphones and tablets. The chips provide significantly lower power consumption, enabling handheld devices to become powerful mobile computers capable of fast internet access and multi-tasking, full 1080p video, 3D graphics, multi-point videoconferencing and voice. The platform supports Wi-Fi, 3G/HSPA, and WiMAX, as well as a range of operation systems including Android, MeeGo and Linux-based Moblin.
SmarTone-Vodafone Partners with Ericsson for Further HSPA+ Network Upgrade
Hong Kong’s SmarTone-Vodafone has signed a three-year contract with Ericsson for a further HSPA+ network upgrade. The operator continues its investment in its HSPA+ network to enhance capacity and maintain its leadership in network performance. Ericsson continues to be SmarTone-Vodafone’s sole supplier in 2G/3G core and radio networks in Hong Kong. SmarTone-Vodafone has recently activated the first 42 Mbps HSPA+ base stations with Dual Carrier technology from Ericsson: the roll-out will continue across its entire footprint.
Elisa 3G Network Has the Widest Coverage in Finland - and the Best Results in Data Rates
In a recent comparative network survey by European Communications Engineering, Elisa has ranked highest in terms of 3G coverage and data rates in Finland. Elisa has expanded the coverage of its 3G network tenfold in four years, reaching more than 90% of the country’s population. The upgrade carried out in April increased peak data rates to 15 Mbps.
Palm Pixi Plus Available Soon for Vodafone Customers in Spain
Palm has announced that its Palm Pixi Plus smartphone will go on sale next week in Spain to Vodafone customers. The HSDPA-enabled device is powered by Palm webOS which makes it possible to run multiple applications simultaneously and move easily between them. Targeted as an affordable handset for mobile professionals and socially connected consumers, the Pixi Plus is Palm's thinnest phone to date. It features a touchscreen plus a full QWERTY keyboard.
Motorola Announces Successful Completion of Phase I TD-LTE Field Trials with China's MIIT
Motorola has completed Phase I TD-LTE field trials with China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). The over-the-air (OTA) TD-LTE trial has achieved downlink throughput up to 80 Mbps while demonstrating mobility, low latency and handover with live applications. The positive results support the ongoing field trials on a larger scale, demonstrating TD-LTE commercial readiness. Motorola is now ready to begin Phase II TD-LTE field trials with increased focus on applications and quality of service (QoS).
