EMOBILE and Huawei Launch Japan's First Commercial HSPA+ Network
Huawei has deployed Japan’s first HSPA+ network for mobile broadband operator EMOBILE. HSPA+ technology enables peak download data speeds of up to 21.6 Mbps, with coverage in the cities of Hokkaido, Sendai, Niigata, Hiroshima, Fukuoka and Nagasaki. Huawei provided EMOBILE with its end-to-end solution including the advanced distributed base station (DBS), as well as its HSPA+ data card (D31HW).
ZTE HSPA+ MIMO Solution Ready for Large Scale Commercialization
ZTE has announced that its HSPA+ MIMO (Multiple-Input Multiple-Output) solution is now ready for large-scale commercial deployment worldwide, following successful interoperability tests in July. The Chinese vendor’s HSPA+ solution has achieved 28.8 Mbps download speed in testing.
The First 3G Watchphone Available in France Exclusively with Orange
Orange has exclusively launched an HSPA-enabled touch watchphone manufactured by LG Electronics. The 14mm-thick LG GD910 features 1.43” tempered glass touchscreen, VGA camera, MP3 player, diary and Dictaphone. It is available exclusively from Orange in France, starting from €899 with subscription to 12- or 14- month Origami contracts. The device is compatible with Orange’s HSPA network in France, which covers 78% of the population.
T-Mobile to Offer Faster Mobile Broadband in Czech Republic
Nokia Siemens Networks has been selected by Deutsche Telekom’s Czech mobile unit T-Mobile to build an advanced 3G mobile broadband network based on HSPA technology. The upgrade, which will enable peak download rates of up to 14.4 Mbps and 5.7 Mbps in the upload, is expected to be completed by the end of 2009.
LTE Device and Tester Worries Evaporating
Wireless broadband solutions provider Anritsu has successfully demonstrated a 3GPP compliant end-to-end LTE data call over an air interface in cooperation with a leading device manufacturer in South Korea. The test was achieved using Anritsu’s RTD (Rapid Test Designer) test technology and the state of the art LTE device. Anritsu has demonstrated its leadership in the field, reinforcing the development of 3GPP compliant devices in line with the commercial timescales.
Vodafone Germany and Huawei Sign Memorandum of Understanding for LTE Digital Dividend Test
Vodafone Germany will test LTE’s performance in the digital dividend spectrum band (790-862MHz) in cooperation with China’s Huawei. The main focus will be to demonstrate LTE's ability to provide seamless broadband coverage in rural and urban areas and its compatibility with adjacent technologies such as Digital TV and Digital Radio. The joint initiative aims to validate LTE's application within the digital dividend band using Huawei's end-to-end LTE solution.
Consultation on the Way Forward for the Future Use of the Band 872 - 876 MHz Paired with 917 - 921 MHz in the United Kingdom
Following recent amendments to the European GSM Directive, the UK’s telecoms regulator Ofcom has launched a consultation on the future use of the 872-876 MHz band paired with 917-921 MHz. The consultation, which will close on 3 November, in particular concerns technical conditions related to the release of the 900 MHz band for use by the UMTS family of mobile broadband technologies.
Microsoft and Nokia Form Global Alliance to Design, Develop and Market Mobile Productivity Solutions
Microsoft and Nokia have joined forces to collaborate on the development and marketing of productivity solutions for business users. The alliance will bring Microsoft Office Mobile and Microsoft business communications, collaboration and device management software to Nokia Symbian devices. Initially, Microsoft Office Mobile suite will feature on Nokia’s business-optimized range, Nokia Eseries, with a wider portfolio of smartphones to follow.
Motorola LTE Drive Tour Arrives in Sweden
Motorola has set up a demo LTE network in the 2.6 GHz band in Stockholm to showcase the technology in an urban environment. In addition to rich multimedia applications, SD and HD video streaming, voice over IP calls, file downloads, the LTE drive tour also includes live TV over LTE.
