Rogers Introduces Canada's First 3.5G Embedded Netbooks
Canadian operator Rogers Wireless has launched the HSPA-enabled Hewlett-Packard (HP) Mini 110 netbook with built-in mobile broadband technology. The HP Mini 110 netbook, which supports download speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps, is available exclusively from Rogers Wireless for CA$299.99 (US$268.45) on a two-year contract, with wireless data plans starting at CA$25.00 per month.

ZTE Wins Major Uzbekistan UMTS Contract with Ucell
Uzbekistan mobile operator Ucell, part of TeliaSonera, has selected China’s ZTE to upgrade its network to GSM/WCDMA technology. Under the terms of the contract, ZTE will manage the construction and expansion of Ucell’s 2G/3G network, including replacement of existing 2G equipment. Ucell had 4 million subscribers at the end of May 2009, representing a 37% market share.

Vodafone UK First to Offer Samsung NC10 Netbook with Built-in Mobile Broadband
Vodafone UK has unveiled the Samsung NC10 netbook with an integrated HSPA mobile broadband modem. The netbook, which enables download speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps and 2.0 Mbps in the uplink, is available free on both a 24-month contract for GPB25 (US$41) a month with 1GB of data and a 24-month contract for GBP30 a month with 3GB of data.

Korean President and Ericsson CEO Meet and Agree to Cooperate for 4G-Based Green Eco-System
Ericsson has launched a mobile broadband initiative in the Republic of Korea in cooperation with the South Korean government. The collaboration aims to utilise mobile broadband, including LTE (Long Term Evolution) and other advanced mobile technologies, such as machine to machine (m2m), to create a green eco-system. Mobile broadband and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) will help Ericsson and the South Korean government to reduce CO2 emissions and create a more sustainable society.

Huawei Launches World's First Commercial LTE eNodeB
Huawei has launched an LTE eNodeB base station aiming to spur large-scale commercial deployments. It uses 64QAM (Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) and MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) technology with 2T2R (two transmitters and two receivers) and is capable of supporting maximum downlink speeds of up to 150 Mbps in commercial LTE networks. The move signals that Huawei remains committed to the standardization and trials of LTE technology. The vendor is TeliaSonera’s partner for the planned deployment of its LTE network in Oslo, Norway..

Option Launches New iCON USB Modem Series into U.S. with Cincinnati Bell as First Customer
Belgian wireless solutions provider Option has signed Cincinnati Bell as its first US customer for the new iCON 452 HSPA+ USB modem. The Option iCON 452 device, which uses Advanced Wireless Services (AWS) Spectrum, is available on Cincinnati Bell's enhanced 3G wireless network in the Cincinnati and Dayton regions.

Telecom NZ Hits 100,000 Customers on XT Network and Invites iPhone Users to Join
Telecom New Zealand has connected 100,000 customers to its recently launched nationwide WCDMA/HSPA 850 MHz network in seven weeks. The operator has also launched an incentive for HSPA-enabled iPhone users, enabling them to connect their iPhone 3GS to the XT network on a 24-month AU$79.95/month (US$64.32) price plan, in return getting an AU$600 account credit plus 240MB of free data a month for 2 years.

NTT DOCOMO Develops Solar-powered Handset
Japan’s NTT DoCoMo has introduced a solar-powered HSDPA-enabled mobile handset from Sharp. The Sharp Solar Hybrid 936SH device, which features an 8-megapixel camera, UV sensor and a waterproof case, gives one minute of call time for every 10-minute charge with sunlight. It will be available in NTT DoCoMo Style series as the SH-08A from September 2009.
StarHub Launches Singapore's First Commercial HSPA+ Service, Offering the Island's Fastest Mobile Broadband Speed
Singapore mobile operator StarHub has inaugurated its HSPA+ mobile broadband network following pilot projects in May and June 2009. Branded as MaxMobile Elite, the network now offers peak download speeds of up to 21 Mbps nationwide. The HSPA+ devices are provided by China’s Huawei.
Ericsson Announces Agreement with Telefónica O2 UK for Managed Services Including Field Maintenance and Logistical Support Services
UK mobile operator O2 has awarded a managed services contract to Ericsson for both 2G and 3G networks. Under the terms of the deal, Ericsson will provide field maintenance services for radio and switch sites, spare parts management logistics support, as well as optimisation and drive services and facilities engineering services for Telefonica O2 UK. The contract further expands Ericsson's long-term global partnership in multiple countries.
