Nokia Siemens Networks Signs Agreement with Nortel to Purchase LTE and CDMA Assets
Nokia Siemens Network (NSN) is to acquire LTE and CDMA infrastructure assets from Nortel for US$650 million. Bringing together the complementary assets of the two companies in the field of mobile radio access, the agreement will enhance NSN’s strength in LTE as well as augmenting its North American market presence. Under the terms of the deal, more than 2,500 Nortel employees will be transferred to NSN.

Etisalat Delivers Fastest Mobile Broadband in the World Using End-to-End IP Network
Etisalat has completed the upgrade of its 3G mobile network using HSDPA technology, which will enable peak download speeds of up to 14.4 Mbps across the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Combined with its nationwide investment in fibre-optic infrastructure, Etisalat will now be able to deliver advanced mobile broadband services using an end-to-end all-IP network. To take advantage of Etisalat’s upgraded HSDPA network customers are required to use a compatible modem or data card.

Orange Unveils Mobile Data Roaming Portfolio for Multinational Corporations
Orange has launched four new mobile data roaming packages aimed at multinational corporations (MNCs). The move will make international mobile data simple to use and affordable for MNCs, letting travelling employees easily stay in touch via their laptops and email-enabled handsets. Orange continues commitment to make roaming simpler and more affordable via the Orange Travel roaming initiative. The Travel Data bundles are available to Orange customers in the UK, France, Belgium, Poland, Spain, and Switzerland.

T-Mobile USA Unveils the T-Mobile myTouch 3G with Google Featuring Personalization Front and Center
T-Mobile USA has unveiled its second Android-powered device – branded the myTouch 3G – which follows the world’s first Android handset, the T-Mobile G1. The device will be commercially available in August. It will retail at US$199.99 on a two-year contract. T-Mobile USA customers can pre-order the myTouch 3G from 8 July. Like the T-Mobile G1, the HSDPA-enabled myTouch 3G (also known as the HTC Magic) is manufactured by Taiwanese handset maker HTC.

Boost Your Mobile Signal at Home with Vodafone Access Gateway
Vodafone UK has unveiled a commercial 3G femtocell service, the Vodafone Access Gateway, which will be available at Vodafone stores or online from 1 July. Aimed at the consumer segment, the service improves 3G coverage within the home. The Gateway, which is a router-sized box that plugs into any fixed broadband line, supports up to four voice calls made on 3G handsets simultaneously. The Gateway can be purchased for GBP160 or leased at GBP5 per month. It is also available free-of-charge as part of monthly price plans starting from GBP15.

Ericsson Confirms First LTE License Agreements
Ericsson has signed its first licensing deals for LTE technology in an initiative to establish industry practice that promotes healthy market growth of LTE technology. Ericsson has indicated that the licensing agreements will be made according to Ericsson's proportional share of the standard IPR (Intellectual Property Rights) that relates to the relevant product category, ensuring that a maximum cumulative rate on LTE technology will not exceeding a single-digit rate.

Intel and Nokia Announce Strategic Relationship to Shape Next Era of Mobile Computing Innovation
Intel has entered into a long-term relationship with Nokia to define a new mobile platform beyond today's smartphones, notebooks and netbooks. This strengthened tie-up between the two companies will enable the development of a variety of innovative hardware, software and mobile Internet services. Under the initiative, Nokia will put Intel’s processors in its mobile devices, while Intel will acquire a Nokia HSPA/3G modem IP license for use in future products.
Australia's Fastest Mobile Broadband Just Got Faster with a World First Combination of Network and Device Capability
Telstra has upgraded its Next G network to enable maximum uplink data transfer speeds of 5.8 Mbps, complementing its recent HSPA+ upgrade which boosted downlink speeds to 21 Mbps. Typical upload speeds will vary between 300 Kbps and 3 Mbps in capital cities, metropolitan areas and selected regional locations, while other areas will experience typical upload speeds of 300 Kbps - 1 Mbps. Business customers using the Telstra Turbo 21 mobile broadband USB modem can upgrade their device to take advantage of the enhanced upload speeds.
ZTE Inks Contract with Telkomsel to Build GSM/UMTS Network in Indonesia
Chinese vendor ZTE has been selected as one of the core equipment providers by Indonesia’s Telkomsel for the rollout of its GSM/UMTS network. Under the terms of the deal, ZTE will deploy a GSM/UMTS network for Telkomsel in Indonesia, using its advanced GSM/UMTS solutions. Telkomsel, jointly owned by Indonesia's Telkom and SingTel, aims to roll out its 3G mobile broadband network to 147 cities by 2013.
HTC Sense Debuts on New HTC
Taiwanese smartphone maker HTC has unveiled the HTC Hero, its third device based on Google’s Android operating system. The HSDPA-enabled HTC Hero features a 3.2-inch HVGA display, GPS, WiFi, a 5-megapixel auto-focus camera and expandable MicroSD memory. It will be available across Europe in July and in Asia later in the summer, while a North American version will be available later in 2009.

Telenor Selects Huawei for LTE Network Trial in Norway
Telenor has selected Chinese equipment vendor Huawei to install LTE radio access and EPC (Evolved Packet Core) equipment for its LTE trial in Oslo, Norway. The technology provided by Huawei will enable Telenor to test services and applications, including VOD, VoIP, network handover and network throughput. Huawei remains fully confident in meeting performance expectation in the upcoming trial in Norway using its cutting-edge technologies and customized solutions based on LTE.
