UMTS Forum launches IMT-2000 licensing database on Web

GSM World Congress, Cannes, February 2-4 2000: The UMTS Forum has launched a new web-based resource that presents an at-a-glance summary of the current status and licensing conditions for the deployment of third generation mobile systems in selected territories worldwide.

Titled "IMT-2000 Licensing Conditions & Status: A selected regional overview", the database is available for free download in Word document format from the UMTS Forum website at www.umts-forum.org/licensing.html.

The licensing process for the provision of third generation (3G) IMT-2000 networks has already begun, and the issue of as many as 100 third-generation licenses is anticipated over the next 18 months.
