The GSA and the UMTS Forum are dedicated to the development and promotion of third generation mobile services. The agreement, which was signed on 19th February, will ensure that both organisations maintain a complementary approach in their work areas. This will include information sharing and joint contributions on activities of mutual interest.

Alan Hadden, president of the GSA, said: "Co-operation with the UMTS Forum is a natural step for the GSA. We share the same interests and goals, and it can only be of benefit to us and our members if we work together to achieve these. We look forward to working with the Forum to promote GSM and its evolution towards the next generation of mobile services."

Dr. Bernd Eylert, chairman of the UMTS Forum commented: "We are delighted through this agreement to strengthen relationships with the GSM suppliers community worldwide. We look forward to working together to ensure the ongoing success of GSM and its evolution toward the delivery of third generation mobile multimedia services."
